As a child I interacted very little with my paternal cousins, maternal cousins too for the matter as they are all ,so much younger than me. But when I was growing up, internet was unheard of and telephone out of the city was too expensive. The only mode of communication in vogue was those letters and on special occasions some cards. How I used to write sometimes the already written letter for the hand written italics was not good enough. Hmm good old days. Suddenly the world of internet came, the letters stopped and cards on my birthday also stopped coming. But then we moved to Bangalore where I had whole hosts of cousins. My aunt lived next door and both her daughters were married off, the second one more so recently. So I used to go and give her company at night, when she felt most lonely. My treat used to be -lovely breakfast in the morning. I used to share strange stories with my aunt before sleeping, catching up the times, I missed in life earlier and all those fables, which could not be shared through letters. And then like most friends, we shared saris to wear to our respective work places and give honest opinion on which sari suits us best. Yes... hard way realized, its good to send emails, letters and cards to people but meeting them for a long chat - nothing like it. The human contact makes it all worthwhile. Remembering my aunt and her specialty - Akki Roti

Ingredients:
- 2 cups Rice Flour
- 1 very small chopped onion
- 2 chopped green chillies
- 1/4 spoon cumin seeds
- 2 tablespoons of grated coconut
- 1/2 bell pepper
- 2 tablespoons of grated carrots
- 1/2 teaspoon of grated ginger
- 1 cup of warm water
- 1 tablespoon of chopped cilantro ( coriander) leaves
- Salt
- Oil
Method:
- Kneed the rice powder with all the ingredients except oil into a dough- you can add more or less water as needed
- keep aside for 15 mins covered.
- Take a cool flat pan - smear oil on it
- Take a large ball of dough and flatten it on the oiled pan in an evenly circular shape
- Make a hole in the middle
- Switch the heat on high and cover the pan for 4- mins, no need to reverse the roti
- Serve with anything or nothing
- Do that with other rotis too, make sure when you oil and smear the dough the pan should be cool, good idea to use two pans
My 3 year old saw a Dog in Bangalore whose name was Sona, been almost 3 months,
he still thinks all dogs are cute and their name ought to be Sona- no other name will do!
